Kaitlan and Matthew’s lush winter wedding at Hidden Meadows in Snohomish was a perfect day full of laughter and love. Admittingly, I was a bit nervous. There was a huge wind storm the night before. As such, many in the area lost power for at least several hours, including myself. It made me wonder how the windstorm would affect their wedding. However, as luck would turn out, their wedding day was full of clear skies and patches of gorgeous sun. Misty mountains glisten in the distance, providing the perfect backdrop. They couldn’t have picked a day with more glorious December weather if they tried!
Kaitlan and Matthew had attended all of school together, beginning in kindergarten! Years later, they had a chance to reconnect one evening. Kaitlan was working as a server at Lombardi’s restaurant when she bumped into Matthew, because he was there for a friend’s engagement party. They talked a few times that night. Later, Matthew found Kaitlan on Facebook and messaged her. Their relationship began from there!
On their first date, Matthew picked Kaitlan up, and they began to drive. He asked her what she wanted to do. She was nervous that he was another guy who “didn’t care” enough to put thought into planning a date. But as the night wore on, she realized her suspicion was wrong. He took her go-cart racing, something totally out of her element, and then to The Lodge for dinner. As, he dropped her off at home, he first leveled all the pictures on her walls. Such a sweet gesture!
For Kaitlan, the highlight of her wedding day was all the special moments she shared with Matthew. They reminisced about the past, reveled in the excitement of their wedding, and talked of their future as a married couple. For Matthew, the highlight of his day was seeing Kaitlan in her wedding dress. This was an emotional moment indeed.
Some of my personal favorite highlights from their wedding include:
The first look. Kaitlan clearly has a special bond with her parents, and this was evident when Kaitlan’s dad saw her for the first time on her wedding day. As he beamed with pride for his daughter, the impact of seeing Kaitlan in her wedding dress left her father in joyful tears. He draped a necklace, full of meaning, around her neck. It contained a diamond from his mother’s ring.
Afterwards came Matthew’s turn at an emotional first look. Gazing at Kaitlan, his eyes twinkled in awe. He is such a caring, gentle man, and the tender way in which he looked at his bride only conveyed these qualities more. Between sobs, he uttered the words, “beautiful, beautiful” several times. I love when men can openly show their joyful emotions, it gets me right in the feels every time.
The wedding party. Kaitlan’s bridesmaids may be my most favorite group I’ve ever worked with. I truly felt like one of the girls just having fun, and when we shot our outside photos, not one person complained about the cold. That’s impressive for a chilly December day spent in thin dresses! The groomsmen were friendly too, and I was struck by how welcoming and kind everyone was.
The floral arrangements. I was impressed that all the floral arrangements were crafted by Matthew’s mother. They were stunning. Tons of lush garlands adorned the reception area, brightening the room with a classy, festive feel. The colors she used, deep burgundy, blush, and white, were a wonderful nod to the season.
