A Regal Winter Wedding at Thornewood Castle

Joanna Monger Photography – Snohomish & Seattle Wedding Photographer

Little did I know the morning I left home to photograph Meridia and Stewart’s wedding at Thornewood Castle in Lakewood, it’d feel almost like a trip back home! As such, this castle reminded me so much of the old-world architecture in England that at times, I found myself forgetting that I wasn’t there. Compared to most wedding venues within the states, Thornewood Castle is unique, unusual, and most definitely memorable. Add to that a secret English garden that, despite it being the dead of winter seemed quite magical, and I’d say Meridia and Stewart’s wedding was picture-perfect!

In keeping with Thornewood Castle’s regal feeling, Meridia’s wedding dress looked like something fit for royalty. It was stunning, as if it were tailor-made with Meridia specifically in mind. Words can’t describe how beautiful she was in her dress. Good thing we have pictures!

Instead of having a first look, the couple opted for tradition and saved it for the ceremony. As it began, Stewart appeared nervous as he anxiously awaited his bride. Making her way down the grand staircase to the top of the aisle, however, his face quickly changed to reflect pure joy. His loving expression was very sweet.

Wedding Highlights

There are so many wonderful details to write about, and it’s hard to list them all. However, some of my personal favorite highlights from their wedding include:

The yummy cakes at the reception. Yes, that is meant to be plural! Who doesn’t love pairing a great celebration with a great dessert?

Meridia’s dress. I know, I’ve already mentioned it, but I just had to once more for good measure. As you look at the pictures, you’ll understand what I mean.

Meridia and Stewart’s relaxed vibe. It was raining on their wedding day, much like how it rained during their engagement shoot. And much like their engagement shoot, the couple maintained their relaxed composure and had fun with photos outdoors!

The wedding party. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming, and this actually extended beyond the wedding party to all their guests. In the time that I’ve gotten to know Meridia and Stewart, I’ve seen what great people they are. It’s reflected in the kindness of the loved ones that were present.

In closing, please enjoy looking at some of the photos of Meridia and Stewart’s special day at Thornewood Castle in Lakewood. Also, feel free to leave them well-wishes in the comments below!

Meridia and Stewart, it was such a joy to photograph your wedding. Deep thanks for the opportunity to do so, and thank you for the nostalgic reminder of home! A warm congratulations to you both!
