Canoeing at UW on Puget Sound – Engagement Shoot by Joanna Monger Photography – Snohomish & Seattle Wedding Photographer

I have been so lucky to be part of some really great engagement shoots this spring. Callie and Taylor’s was a lot of fun, we rented canoes from UW water activities center and they explored the area by boat while I photographed them. Despite being right by one of the main freeways it was really pretty there and we saw a surprising amount of wildlife like herons, eagles and all sorts of other creatures.

I absolutely love anything to do with water, I am a self confessed water baby. Back in the day I was a river guide down in the South of France and so canoeing will always be very special to me. Watching Callie and Taylor paddle around reminded me that I need to get myself a new canoe. Ironically since I moved to the states and have actually been living on a beautiful river it is the only time in my adult life that I have not owned a canoe and or kayak. Hmm, need to change that… Anyhoo back to Callie and Taylor…

These two love birds are so sweet together. They definitely looked very nervous at the beginning of the session, but it didn’t take them long to relax and realize that I really am not very scary at all. I love how Callie laughs at everything and that her laughter is very infectious to everyone around her. Taylor’s gentle and caring ways make these two a wonderful couple and I am quite certain they will be live a very happy life together. New Years eve this year is going to be a very special time for these two and all their family and friends who are going to gather together at a wonderful venue on Beacon Hill to celebrate their love at their wedding. I am very excited to be part of their day and photograph it for them. I also think we are going to have the best views of the fireworks over DT Seattle. I’m not really a firework girl to be honest, but I do like the ones blasting over the Space Needle – they are pretty epic!

I hope you enjoy a selection of Taylor and Callie’s pictures from their UW canoeing engagement session:

As in my usual fashion I asked the happy couple a few questions so everyone could get to know them a little better. Here is what they said about each other… Awww….

Taylor: One of my favorite stories to think about is when we went on a late-night walk around campus not too long after we started getting to know each other (okay, it isn’t when we first met, but I’m bending the rules a bit here). We ended up walking around the lower part of campus with no one else around and came across a few slugs moving across the sidewalk towards the grass. Callie’s eyes instantly lit up and she could barely contain how excited she was. Apparently she thought slugs were one of the cutest things in the world. The way she smiled and got in close to watch them was one of the cutest things I’ve ever seen, and I still grin every time I think about it.

Callie: Taylor and I met for the very first time in our first -year honors seminar class at PLU. I found him to be a bit annoying, and we never really connected. A year later we both ended up moving to a new residence hall and lived one spiral staircase away. We had both arrived early for school and were hanging out in the same group of friends. We eventually started talking and shared a love of Star Wars. Our first date was watching Return of the Jedi, and that is when I knew he was an awesome guy!

Taylor: Callie is the most understanding and caring person I know. She’s always been there for me through the good and the bad, and knows when to listen and when to give advice. She’s smart and always seems to know what to say, and I know that she’ll always be honest and genuine with me.

Callie: Taylor is always up for trying new things, which I love! He can convince me to do things that are out of my comfort zone, and we always have a blast. He is a great partner in crime, and I feel so loved and happy when I am with him!

Taylor: I’m excited to see where the world takes us together. We both have dreams, plans, and goals, and I love imagining each one of them and talking about how we can make them realities together (although I sometimes go overboard)! Both of us want to see each other succeed in everything we do, and I feel so lucky to have a fiancée that is always willing to listen to my rambling ideas, whether they’re about future travel, professional goals, or even just fun things to do together in our free time.

Callie: I am looking forward to growing together, trying many more new things, and facing whatever challenges may come. We have been through a lot in five years together, and I know we will have a blast figuring out what is next!

Taylor: Loving, fun, and EXTREMELY supportive!

Callie: Hmmmm. I will have to say hilarious, thoughtful, and adventurous! He is always making me laugh, thinking of me and planning ahead, and is willing to try anything once!

Taylor: I’d be lying if I said staying in and watching a movie together wasn’t one of my favorite things, but there’s so many other that it’s hard to list them all! If I had to choose one thing, though, it’s trying any new experience together, whether it’s going on a weekend trip away to someplace we’ve never been before, learning how to paddle board together, taking a glass blowing lesson, or just anything out of the ordinary! Watching Seahawks games together ranks pretty high up there, too…

Callie: Taylor and I love to play board games, try new breweries and unique beers, play frisbee together, cook, and hang out with our friends! The ideal day would have all of these elements!!

Thank you to Callie and Taylor for choosing me to be your photographer, I am very excited to be document  your wedding day in Seattle later this year.
